The 34th edition of the National Farmer's Day has been launched with a
call on all stakeholders to collaborate to make the sector more vibrant.
This year’s (2018) event which will be held
in Tamale in the Northern Region is on the theme, “Agriculture, Moving
Ghana Beyond Aid”.
Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia speaking at
the launch said Ghana still lacks a sustainable agricultural plan to
make her an agricultural hub in the sub region.
He said government recognising this lapse,
has introduced a number of initiatives to position the sector well to
compete effectively stressing that the Planting for Food and Jobs
initiative attests to government commitment to move the country beyond
aid.
He charged organisers of the event to rise
to the occasion and make the celebration a memorable one as the Northern
Region holds a lot of prospects for investment.
