The Brong Ahafo Regional Police Command has given a ten-day ultimatum to
a sergeant of the Techiman police station to produce three prisoners
who escaped due to negligence on his part.
On Saturday evening four prisoners managed to overcome the officer on duty leading to the escape of the three.
The fourth accomplice was shot dead by the officer.
In an interview with Citi News, the Public Relations officer of the
Brong Ahafo Police, Chief Inspector Kingsley Oppong said the officer
will be sanctioned if he fails to produce the escapees.
“This sergeant has been given ten days to look for the prisoner, while
an investigation is also going on to ascertain, why the sergeant shot
the person also negligently allowing these prisoners to escape,” he
said.
In May, Police in the Brong Ahafo Region similarly arrested two of
their own for allegedly conniving with some residents of Akyeremade in
the Sene West District, who stormed the district police headquarters at
Kwame Danso and freed some four suspects in custody.
Some residents are said to have attacked the district police
headquarters at Kwame Danso, assaulted police personnel on duty and
released four inmates.
At the beginning of this year, the Inspector General of Police (IGP),
David Asante-Apeatu disclosed that two of the seven suspects who escaped
from the Kwabenya Police station, after armed assailants broke into the
station and released them, have been rearrested.
Addressing the media, the IGP said the two were arrested at Worawora in the Volta Region.
