Idiomatic expressions are used to spice up speeches and writings, but it
appears politicians in Ghana do not have the luxury of using idioms
according to former President Mahama.
Mr Mahama's latest tweet on President Akufo-Addo’s use of an idiom has generated a storm on social media.
In the tweet, Mr Mahama posted a picture of a goat and a dog with a
caption, “Lessons in Ghanaian politics- don’t use idioms in relation to
yourself. They'll stick”.
The post is believed to be aimed at drawing comparisons between his use
of the ‘dead goat syndrome’ at a time when labour groups were
threatening to go on strike or demonstrations prior to the 2016 election
year.
President Nana Akufo-Addo also recently used an idiom to hit back at critics who want to tag his family as corrupt.
“I am aware that you give a dog a bad name in order to hang it, but this dog will not be hanged,” the President said.
So how did this controversy start? Manasseh Azure Awuni takes us on the journey that has led us to this point.
